XTR Wins iF Design Award
11/26/2006
Hannover, Germany

The Award

After winning “Gold” at the Eurobike Award last August, Shimano XTR has won another important design prize: the iF Product Design Award, presented by the Internationalen Forum Design in Hannover, Germany. It is one of world’s three leading design awards and can look back on a 50 year history. This year 2,293 products from 35 different countries were judged by renowned experts at the Hannover Exhibition Centre. Needless to say that we are very proud to be awarded in such a highly competitive, international environment.

The jury judged the production methods as well as the functionality of the products that were sent in. But also aspects such as innovation and design level were being taken into consideration. The new Shimano XTR group was being awarded in the category “Leisure/Lifestyle”.

A bicycle with the new Shimano XTR will be presented at the iF design exhibition 2007 that will open its doors on March 17 within the context of the CeBIT – the world’s biggest information technology and telecommunications trade fair in the Hannover Exhibition Centre. The exhibition will run until August 2007 and expected will be around 300,000 visitors.

The Products

Each product of the new Shimano XTR group has been developed with two main goals in mind: First of all to offer superior performance and second to take design of mountain bike components to a new level.

The products have a unique design, combining racing characteristics like compact and lightweight performance with more aggressive, sharp edged elements. Common theme in all products is the “X” shape that not only gives the separate components a unified look and feel but also offers performance advantages by providing extra rigidity while saving weight.
